Résumé de la thèse

My thesis pursues two main objectives. At a broader level, it seeks to offer a partial reassessment of

the reception of Empiriocriticism within Logical Empiricism—a subject that, in my view, remains

insufficiently explored in the existing scholarship on the Vienna Circle. This reassessment will be

carried out through a focused case study: the intellectual connection between Otto Neurath and

Richard Avenarius, which I take as a paradigmatic instance of the philosophical significance of this

reception. More specifically, I aim to examine how Neurath’s intellectual development was shaped by

Avenarius’s later work. By clarifying this link, I hope to shed new light on Neurath’s role in the

internal debates of the Vienna Circle, particularly with regard to the emergence of his physicalism and

conception of scientific evidence.
