Description | Informations : Thought experiment (TEs) abound in philosophy and are a crucial part of its methodological toolkit, from the most abstract metaphysics to the most practical ethical considerations. These EP and their epistemic value are themselves the subject of rich philosophical debates. The goal of this workshop is to examine TE, the way they are used across different fields of philosophy, and how they can justify a theory. The approach is intended to be multi-dimensional: specialists in PE will provide a general framework on the subject; researchers from particular fields of philosophy will present their views on PEs in their field; PhD students will be allowed to express themselves and exchange views on the subject, for example by presenting a PE they find convincing or not about their thesis topic. Doctoral students taking part in this workshop will benefit in several ways: they will acquire a better knowledge of the philosophical literature on PEs; in so doing, they will question the methodology of their discipline; finally, they will also have the opportunity to discuss and present, in English, topics related to their research to an audience including experts on the subject. |
