Modeling in biology

My thesis will consider the philosophical issues of scientifical modeling in the field of biology. The main philosophical issues about models are describing their role and functioning in scientific practice and understandung their epistemological status in comparison to other types of scientific knowledge. I will focus my study on evolutionary biology because it is central to any biological inquiry and also because evolutionary models often rely on mathematical structures, which makes them similar to other models in science, especially in physics and economics, that have already been sudied in philosophy of science.
