Description

• English : This workshop is addressed to philosophy PhD students, in particular those studying philosophy of science, metaphysics and theoretical philosophy. Its aims is to investigate to what extent a functionalist approach may provide relevant conceptual tools to address the issue of the nature of spacetime as described by fundamental physics, in particular in the context of the research programs in quantum gravity where it is suggested that spacetime itself is not fundamental and where the issue of its possible emergence arises. The analogy with other forms of functionalism in philosophy---in particular in metaphysics and in philosophy of mind---will be discussed by renowned scholars, making the the workshop interesting to and relevant for PhD students with different backgrounds from the CUSO universities.
